From her humble beginnings as a "Fashion Doll" created by Ruth Handler, in a striped bathingsuit and top-knot pony tale, Barbie has been every little girl's idea of a roll-model. Barbie was inspired by the Bild Lilli doll from Germany, since 1959 Barbie has been the glamour goddess atop of the whole doll market. With designers working for them like Bob Mackey, Christian Dior, Versace, Giorgio Armani, and Oscar De La Renta, Barbie is the apitomy of fashion. From the little girl who doesn't have expensive clothes, to the little girl in D&G Junior, barbie has always been a roll-model. Then, that was the closest to a designer most children could get.
Through rough times and good, barbie has always gotten through. Arguable, one of the most collectable items in the world, Barbie is never out of fashion. Almost uniquely for a toy fashion doll, Barbie has become a cultural icon and has been given honors that are rare in the toy world. In 1974 a section of Times Square in New York City was renamed Barbie Boulevard for a week, while in 1985 the artist Andy Warhol created a painting of Barbie. The only down-side of Barbie, is that she "promotes" a bad self image to over-weight children. But, with every good idea comes imposters. Bratz. Right now, Bratz are banned from being sold ANY WHERE.
In celebration Mattel held a fashion show in honor of barbie, where 50 well known designers all made a life-size look for our plastic heroin! (shown below)
All in all, Barbie is here to stay, and is/was a great idea. We're glad that Barbie was invinted. She changed the whole girl world. (watch the barbie video at: http://www.stardoll.com/en/cinema/?id=37 and look above for the gift that you recieve!)

wait, are you serious that Bratz are banned from being sold? because if you are, that is ACE. I loved them for about a year... but now I see the truth. [cough, that they're sluts with huge heads and no feet, cough]
+ I love Barbie. ;)
Roll-models? LMFAO Dumb shit. Maybe they were "roll-models" for the fat gay kid who read Vogue while the other little boys did things that normal little boys do.

Do yourself a favor fucktard and press spell check before you post your shit. Everyone else who works for this blog seems to manage just fine, but then again they aren't mentally ill/homo-retarted like ya now!!!!!!

Oops, almost forgot:
I'm a barbie girl, in a barbie world.
Life is plastic, it's fantastic!
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere!
I loved the ending with the kids coming out with their barbies! I was a bit disappointed, though. None of the youngsters hammed it up like I wanted!
Barbie stinks. Bratz were way better than Barbie, better fashion, and then Mattel had to get jealous some doll was better than them and sue. I miss Bratz, I really do!
+ I hate Barbie.
I love Barbie. So much better than Bratz, Bratz dolls are just jealous ugly dolls :P
you could even claim that stardoll is an online version of barbie! yay! so without barbie, and the internet of course, stardoll would not be!
Your kidding, right?
Role model?
Pttph.
Take a look at her.
Skinny as all shit, booby as you can get and perfect feautures. And lets be honest. NONE of us look like that.
Role model.... more like Slut.
WTF!
Bratz are so much better then barbie.
Barbie sucks ass
Just because theres another doll out doesnt mean that they want to copy barbie & beat sales.
At least Bratz isnt cutsie-poof. & Bratz displays all styles even goth/punk!
Face it, BARBIE SUCKS
-Xain
barbie is a symbol of plastic beauty but the dress is cute
Barbie continues to be a genius toy, especially since girls like to imagine themselves grown up and Barbie helps them do that
